“Their support has been unreal”: Lancaster City pays tribute to their supporters ahead of home match

Lancaster City boss has previewed their return to action this weekend.

Jimmy Marshall hopes to repay Lancaster City’s supporters for their backing as the Dolly Blues return home this weekend.

City host Cleethorpes Town in NPL Premier, looking for a first win in four after defeats to Leek Town and Emley AFC as well as last weekend’s point at FC United of Manchester.

It is the second time in six weeks the teams have met, with Cleethorpes having won their FA Trophy tie on September 26.

Speaking after last weekend’s draw, Marshall said: “I said to the players in training all I want to do every week is make them (the supporters) happy.

“They’re happy when Lancaster City win football matches, so the ones I spoke to today can appreciate a good, hard-working performance.

“They know that we’ve done our best to try and win the game today. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to win it but we’ve not lost it.

“Their support has been unreal and we know that next week’s going to be a really tough game against a good Cleethorpes side, who we owe one.

“We want to quickly forget that performance but we’ll also use it as a little bit of fuel to say ‘come on, let’s go and make sure we do better than we did last time’.

“Look at some of our away performances. Guiseley and Bury, two of the best teams in the division, we’ve won away at both of them so we know - on our day - we can beat anybody.

“It’s just about doing things right and consistently more often; whereas last season, we were a little bit more like that, we’ve just been a little bit up and down - and we need to be a little bit more up than down.

“We’re working hard on those things and trying to make sure that we do put more consistent performances in.

“A team like that, coming to us, we can make the Axe a fortress again. We’ve lost too many games.

“We’ve won two and obviously got beaten by Leek by the odd goal, but our home record this season hasn’t been good enough.

“We’ve been better away from home if you look at the points and we just need to make the Axe a fortress.

“There’s nothing better than when you’re piling pressure on, attacking the Neil Marshall Stand in the second half and fans are willing you on.

“It’s our Remembrance fixture as well, which is really important, so we’ll respect that and hopefully get a win and get a feelgood factor around the club.

“We’ve had a couple of tough weeks at certain stages this season and the fans’ backing has been unreal.

“They know we’re working hard and doing everything we can to try and make sure we’re competing at the right end of the division.

“It’s not easy, everybody’s trying to do the same thing; that’s the problem with football, everybody wants to win!

“That support was brilliant today and hopefully we’ll give them something to shout about next weekend.”
