“I think we’ve only got ourselves to blame”: Lancaster City manager reflects on weekend loss
Lancaster City manager gave his thoughts after their defeat last Saturday.
Jimmy Marshall admitted Lancaster City could only blame themselves for last weekend’s defeat at Emley AFC.
The Dolly Blues lost 1-0 in their NPL Premier match as Lewis Gould’s 40th-minute goal settled matters.
Storm Boelo also meant both teams had to deal with driving wind and rain, though Marshall praised both teams for their approach to proceedings.
The Lancaster boss said: “A very tight game. Fair play to both sides, I thought they had a real go in awful conditions.
“The pitch stood up to it really well but it was never going to be pretty, with the storm and everything that’s been going on.
“We’ve started brightly in the first half. I thought we were slightly the better side, really comfortable.
“Then we work a throw-in down the right-hand side, we throw it short, he plays the ball in behind two v one.
“The lad gets in behind us, rounds Brad Kelly and scores. It can’t happen, we switched off and ultimately that’s cost us the game.
“Second half we’ve had a go at it, become a little bit stretched at times, but we’ve had chances.
“Their keeper’s made some good saves and if you look at the entries into the box and the clear-cut chances, I think we’ve had most of them.
“We missed chances when it was 0-0, which is a bit of a killer. It just alleviates that bit of pressure and that goal doesn’t probably happen if we take those chances.
“You’ve got to give them credit, they stuck to the task well and tried to hit us on the break.
“They defended the box quite well, so I think we’ve only got ourselves to blame.”
