Lancaster City players’ foundation and application pleased the Giant Axe boss

Lancaster City manager gave his post-match thoughts after their weekend point.

Jimmy Marshall was pleased with Lancaster City’s defensive efforts after watching them earn a point at FC United of Manchester last weekend.

The Dolly Blues ended October with a goalless draw at Broadhurst Park, where they spurned chances to break the deadlock.

They could have left with nothing at all but Dec Evans missed a second-half penalty for the home team.

Speaking afterwards, Marshall told club media: “I was pleased with the foundation that we put in today in terms of being solid and hard to beat.

“Our last two games prior to this, where we’ve lost by the odd goal (against Emley AFC and Leek Town), I thought there was nothing in the games; we’ve given poor goals away.

“From that point of view, it’s an improvement. Any point on the road in this division is a good point.

“They have got some good players, I just thought we should have made our first-half display count a little bit more.

“I thought we had good play, got into good areas without really testing the goalkeeper so I was a bit disappointed.

“While I was pleased with the set-up of the team, the solidity and how we defended - apart from one moment where we gave a penalty away - we just need to make sure we get that balance right where it’s solid at the back but we need to have a little bit more in the final third.

“We had some good openings but never really tested the keeper, so I was a little bit disappointed in that respect but it’s a solid enough point.

“Like I say, we’re talking about making slight tweaks and improvements on the back of getting a fairly decent point on the road.

“It was important to stop the rot with those two defeats we’ve had and I was pleased with the lads’ application.”
