FC United of Manchester 0 Lancaster City 0: A point apiece as Halloween clash ends level

Lancaster City and FC United of Manchester shared the spoils on Saturday.

There was nothing to separate the teams as Lancaster City drew 0-0 at FC United of Manchester on Saturday, writes CONNOR PHILIPSON.

It was neither a trick nor treat on Halloween as the Dollies took a point away from home after a lively affair ended goalless.

There were three changes to Jimmy Marshall’s Lancaster line-up as Jules Flanagan, Nathan Caine and Dom Lawson returned to the starting XI.

A fairly quiet opening was interrupted just after the 10th minute as Brad Kelly was called into action for the first time, pushing away Jordan Buckley’s long-range effort.

The Dollies replied with Caine ghosting through the midfield before rolling his effort wide of the bottom corner.

Lawson was next to come close for the Dollies, touching the ball past a defender but seeing his low shot creep inches wide of the target.

That saw City come to life as a defensive clearance landed in front of Dylan Moonan, whose first-time volley went into the crowd behind the goal.

Then, a couple of minutes before the interval, Charlie Bailey came close to breaking the deadlock but his effort was just wide of the goal.

Seven minutes after half-time, Toby Oliver was penalised for a clumsy challenge on Jordan Buckley which saw the referee point to the penalty spot.

However, the Dollies were handed a lifeline as Dec Evans dragged the spot-kick wide, clipping the outside of the post.

The home side kept up their momentum with Ruben Grewal’s 20-yard effort bent inches away from goal.

Marshall went to his bench on four separate occasions as James Bailey, James Nolan, Sidi Fofana and, most notably, Lewis Mansell coming on to impact proceedings.

The latter, playing his first game since April following a long-term injury, helped with Lancaster’s late surge as they searched for a late winner.

As stoppage time began, Mansell tried his luck from 20 yards but his effort fell comfortably into the arms of FC United keeper Dan Atherton.

The closing stages saw the Dollies have one final chance to get the ball into the danger zone.

Nolan delivered and Kyle Brownhill directed the loose ball towards goal, but Atherton promptly pounced with the full-time whistle sounding immediately afterwards.
