“We know that if we’re good, we’re good”: Lancaster City eye a return to winning ways this Saturday
Lancaster City get set for another away game this weekend.
Jimmy Marshall hopes to see the right kind of reaction as Lancaster City look to end the month with three points on Saturday.
The Dolly Blues travel to FC United of Manchester, having endured consecutive defeats with a loss to Leek Town followed by one at Emley AFC last weekend.
That leaves Marshall’s players 12th in the NPL Premier table after one victory in their last five league games.
They now head to an FC United team who drew 1-1 with Quorn on Tuesday, following up last Saturday’s 4-2 win over Whitby Town which lifted them off the foot of the table.
Lancaster’s last win at Broadhurst Park came in 2024 and Marshall isn’t taking too much notice of the opposition’s indifferent start to the season.
Speaking after last Saturday’s defeat, the Lancaster boss told club media: “The league is still panning itself out.
“They’ve had a tough start. They’ve got a good squad, it’s always going to be a tough game when we’re going there but it’s a big game.
“They’ve done a lot of work on the pitch so the pitch looks pretty sound at the moment.
“There’ll be a good crowd, nice stadium, so it’s a big event and a big occasion for our lads.
“We’ll get right this week. We’ll go and train again, and then we’ll look forward to that game.
“We know it’ll be tough but we know exactly where we’re at in this division.
“We know that if we’re good, we’re good and we can pick up results.
“If we’re not, then we can lose games of football just as easily; it’s so tight.
“There’s a lot of good teams in it and when you get these results, you need to learn from them, park it very quickly and go and try to put it right the following week.”
Marshall had made six changes from the team beaten at Leek with a combination of injuries and player unavailability.
Asked for a rundown on the Lancaster absentees, he explained: “Sam Bailey’s injured, Jules Flanagan was called up to the Southport first team, Harry Evers is out injured.
“Joleon (Moore)’s not injured but is looking at doing a dual-reg with Longridge (Town).
“The more options the better but I don’t think we can blame having lads missing today on the result, we had a strong enough 16 out there.
“It was the way we managed the game, left ourselves chasing it and gave ourselves a bit of an uphill battle.
“Conditions were horrendous. It’s really disappointing to be fair, I thought we should have had at least a point out of it.
“We’re going home empty-handed so we need to get back on the training pitch this week, see if we can get more lads back and hopefully try and put it right next week.”
