Former MP selected as Conservative candidate for Morecambe at next election

Morecambe and Lunesdale’s longest serving former MP David Morris has officially announced his political return.

Mr Morris has been officially selected to stand again for the Conservatives in the next general election.

Central to his comeback is an absolute commitment to local infrastructure, declaring that his first priority upon returning to Parliament is to ensure a new nuclear power station is confirmed for Heysham to protect jobs and reverse labours rocketing unemployment.

He said: "I am returning to finish what I started. My absolute number-one priority is to ensure a new nuclear power station is confirmed for Heysham upon my return to Parliament, guaranteeing thousands of high-skilled jobs and energy security and our children’s future."

Morris’s return campaign focuses on five core priorities:

  • Securing Heysham 3: Re-establishing immediate momentum to ensure a new nuclear power station is confirmed for Heysham upon his return to Parliament.
  • Protecting Farmers & Green Belt: Reversing Labour's 'grey belt' reclassifications and fighting punitive tax reforms targeting family farms.
  • Restoring the Full Eden Vision: Returning the Eden Project Morecambe to its original, world-class scale, building on the £50 million funding package he secured.
  • Reviving Healthcare Infrastructure: Demanding accountability for NHS bed reductions and fighting to restore vital hospital upgrades.
  • Reigniting Economic Growth: Shifting the local economy away from dependency and back toward private investment and secure jobs.
