Shrimps Trust column: A period of change both on the pitch and at Trust board level

The latest monthly column from the Shrimps Trust.

Hello Shrimps fans, it’s good to be greeting you again as we embark on another season at the newly-named Halo Aerospace Stadium.

The season didn’t get off the best of starts on the pitch, with injuries impacting what is a new-look Morecambe side which, in hindsight, would have also been trying to gel at the time.

However, over the past month, Adam and the players have very much moved on from the slow start with the weekend’s FA Cup win against Southport making it five wins in six games.

Things seemed to start clicking over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of August, as our first win of the season came on the Friday night before a fantastic win at Chester.

We’re yet to concede a goal at home since AFC Telford United’s late consolation that Friday.

After three relegations in quick succession, it’s a relief to be able to watch us consistently win a few games!

It’s been great to see the strong side Adam has put together developing nicely and we look forward to what the rest of the season will bring on the pitch.

Off the pitch, it was also a tricky start to the season with the club being hit by an embargo for an issue relating to pension payments.

We are glad this has now been resolved and that attention can remain on the pitch.

At the Trust, it’s been a summer of change as we give thanks to departing trustees Pat Stoyles, Ben Cassar, James Main and Joe Kennedy. We’re hugely grateful for their efforts while on the Trust board.

Following a strategy day earlier this month, we are pleased to share our new structure of James Atkinson as chair, Alistair Stewart as vice-chair, Joel Shooter as secretary, Jack Steer as treasurer and James Wakefield as football governance lead.

While it’s a slimmed-down Trust board this year, we’re pleased to have a good range of skills and competencies in place for the season ahead. We’ll be sharing more details from our strategy day soon.

We also remain open to volunteer help for the year ahead and may consider co-opting more board members.

It’s been a turbulent few years with the ownership crisis and subsequent change of ownership.

We now hope to enter a period of working with the club and getting it moving in the right direction again.

On a final note, one thing we will still be bringing this season is away travel.

We currently have spaces available online for our upcoming trips to Worksop, Merthyr, Hednesford and Macclesfield.

If you are planning on travelling with us to those fixtures, please do book as soon as you can. Future games will be added in due course over the season.

The games have been coming thick and fast so far this season and, after a tricky start, things are moving in a positive direction.

Let’s keep getting behind Adam and the team both at home and on the road.

Up the Shrimps!
