“I thought the players were tremendous all game”: Morecambe boss thrilled at back-to-back wins

Morecambe made it six points from six over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Adam Lakeland congratulated his Morecambe players on their collective performance after recording back-to-back Bank Holiday weekend wins in National League North.

They will now look for three consecutive league wins for the first time since February 2024 when Buxton visit the Halo Aerospace Stadium this weekend.

Speaking after Monday’s success, Lakeland said: “I thought it was a really good, disciplined and effective away performance, which is what you need when you come to a place like this against a good team.

“I thought the players were tremendous all game. I thought Joe (Garner) and Matty (Daly) at the top end were really disciplined in the role that they did for the team.

“That filtered all the way back to Myles (Boney) in goal, who didn’t have a great deal to do because of the protection offered to him by the lads in front of him.

“It was a really good - without being spectacular - away performance and I’ll take a 1-0 away win every other week.”

Paul Lewis scored the only goal, heading in from Jake Cain’s free-kick five minutes into the second half.

It was only his second league goal for the club in 65 matches, but didn’t come as a huge surprise to the coaching staff.

Lakeland added: “Through pre-season, he was crashing the box and he’s a good size.

“Sometimes he can end up in a bit of a mismatch with somebody because he’s a good header of the ball and he’s willing to break the box and get in there.

“We felt that we could ask questions of them from set plays and the delivery from Jake was brilliant.

“Jake’s put it right on the money and if Paul’s managed to get one of his hairs to it, then fair play to him!”
