Morecambe boss hopes to establish home rule after their opening win of the season
Morecambe earned their first win of the season on Friday.
Morecambe manager Adam Lakeland says he hopes Friday’s first win of the season over AFC Telford United will be the spark his side needs to rise up the National League North table, writes DEREK QUINN.
The 2-1 win over the Bucks saw the Shrimps move off the foot of the table, having experienced three defeats in a row after a draw on the opening day.
Teddy Collis, one of the club’s many new faces over the summer, marked his first Morecambe start by scoring both goals in the first half.
Although Louis Moult pulled one back late on, the Shrimps were able to hang on and get their first three points on the board for the 2026/27 season.
Lakeland, whose players visit Chester on Monday afternoon, has now called on his players to make the Halo Aerospace Stadium a ‘fortress’ with Buxton their next visitors on Saturday.
He said: “We want to win. We want to bring the winning feeling back to the football club.
“We haven’t been good enough in the first four games and took the criticism for that, but there were times on Friday where we were very good and the fans got right behind us.
“The fans were brilliant and the Halo Aerospace could be an absolute fortress.
“We want to make the people of Morecambe happy and instil that pride back into the club and enjoy the fact they are seeing their team win football matches - and we hope there is more of that to come.
“We are still learning on the job and we still need to bring in some more players, but I think we showed what we are about on Friday.
“If we play like we did in the first half, with pace and intensity with more crosses and shots, we will cause any teams problems and I hope there is more of that to come.”
