“The most important thing about tonight was that we got the three points”: Morecambe earn a first league win
Morecambe collected their first three points of the 2026/27 season on Friday night.
Morecambe boss Adam Lakeland was a happy man after they picked up a first league win of the season on Friday, writes DEREK QUINN.
The 2-1 win over AFC Telford United saw the Shrimps climb off the foot of the National League North table with Lakeland admitting it was a result his side needed.
He said: “The most important thing about tonight was that we got the three points and see everyone at the football club taste that winning feeling for the first time.
“I’m delighted for the players because a lot of them were running on empty at the end, but we managed to come through it and pick up a win that we really needed.
“The first 45 minutes were excellent. We talked all week about being more positive on the front foot, passing the ball forwards and getting crosses in quicker and crashing the box - and we looked threatening throughout the half.
“The only criticism I can have is that we weren’t three or four goals up at the break because if we did that, I don’t think anyone could have said we didn’t deserve it.
“The second half was different and, to be fair to Telford, they had a right go.
“They asked questions of us and we did get lucky when they missed a great chance at the end, but all that matters is we got the win.
“I thought everybody left everything out there on the pitch. That is all I ever ask for and I am happy for the players and the fans, who were brilliant again.”
