Emu causes traffic disruption on Lancaster road near golf club
Motorists in Lancaster were left stunned when they were joined by a feathered road user on Monday afternoon (October 26, 2026).
Traffic came to a halt at approximately 3.43pm in Ashton Road as an emu ran along the stretch of road near to Lancaster Golf Club.
Video footage shared to social media by Pat Matthews shows the large flightless bird walking alongside slow-moving traffic and peering into the nearby car windows as the vehicles carefully passed by.
In his post to social media, Pat said: “It’s not often you go head to head with an emu. Hope he got home safely.”

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: "The call came to us at 3.43pm and it caused some traffic disruption in the area.
"The emu was safely recovered at 4.16pm."
Emus are the second-largest living bird in the world after the ostrich and are native to Australia. They can reach heights of up to 2 metres (6.5 feet) and can weigh between 30kgs and 60kgs (66lb to 120lbs).
