Director and former chairman of Morecambe FC, Rod Taylor, paid tribute to David describing him as ‘a top gentleman and a true Shrimp’.

He said: “David was an unassuming, kindly man with a very generous nature.

"Mike Hinchcliffe, Graham Howse and I visited David a couple of weeks ago, and guess what was the main topic of our nearly two-hour visit? Yes, football and his beloved Morecambe FC.

"David followed the Shrimps since the Lancashire Combination days of 1957.

"He was a respected and valued colleague on the board of directors and will be sorely missed at the Mazuma Stadium. RIP, my friend.”

The funeral will take place on Thursday December 11 at 12.30pm at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium, with the cortege departing the Mazuma Mobile Stadium about noon.

Following the service, a celebration of David's life will be held at his beloved Morecambe Football Club.
