Morecambe boss can bolster his squad after club confirms National League embargo is no longer in place

Morecambe issue a statement to say their registration embargo has now been lifted.

Morecambe have confirmed that the National League has removed the embargo which was placed upon the club three weeks ago.

The Shrimps were one of half-a-dozen clubs put under embargo on August 11 for ‘non-compliance with league financial regulations’.

Steve Dewsnip, the club’s chief operating officer, subsequently confirmed it was enforced following the club’s referral to the pensions regulator regarding non-payment of pension contributions.

While the other five clubs - Altrincham, AFC Fylde, Aldershot Town, FC Halifax Town and Hornchurch - had their embargoes lifted by August 24, Morecambe fans were forced to show more patience.

However, the league’s website had been updated on Wednesday to say the Shrimps’ restriction had been lifted: a position reinforced by a club statement that evening.

It said: “Morecambe Football Club is pleased to confirm that the National League has lifted the club’s registration embargo.

“We would like to thank the National League for its cooperation throughout the process, as well as our supporters for their continued patience, loyalty and backing.

“With the season now well underway, the focus is firmly on getting behind Adam Lakeland, his staff and the players as they continue to represent the club on the pitch.”

It means Morecambe boss Adam Lakeland can now add to his squad as they look to make it three consecutive National League North wins this weekend.
