Victory proved the ideal medicine after a week of illness in the Morecambe camp
Morecambe manager reflected on another three points for his players after victory on Saturday.
Adam Lakeland said he was thrilled by Morecambe’s performance as they sealed a seventh successive home win and kept another clean sheet in picking up a 2-0 win against Scarborough Athletic on Saturday, writes DEREK QUINN.
First-half goals from Marcus Neill and Paul Lewis were enough to give the Shrimps three points which saw them move up to eighth in the National League North table, one place outside of the play-off spots.
Lakeland said: “We are delighted with another home win without conceding a goal.
“It was so important for us to start well and score early because it has been a difficult week for us.
“We have had pretty much three-quarters of the group ill, with minimal training for some of the lads, and it has been a week that has tested us physically.
“We also know Scarborough are a team that always empties the tank and never gives up.
“The fact that they didn’t play on Tuesday meant we felt they might have that little bit more freshness than us the longer the game went.
“For those reasons it was important we started well and we got our noses in front, and I felt we found ourselves 2-0 without being outstanding.
“We struggled to get going a bit after the delay until we made a few changes and the subs made an impact and gave us a bit more impetus.
“It was a collective effort again and what really matters is that we got another three points and another clean sheet.”
