Lancaster care home hosts dream 'rave' for resident

It was the stuff of dreams for not-so-secret raver Sheila...

A resident at a care home in Lancaster had always wanted to go to a rave, so staff at the home made her wish a reality proving the old adage ‘it’s never too late’.

Sheila Moore has lived at Laurel Bank for a year and is beloved by staff and residents alike.

Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making her dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to her, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Sheila’s face when her dream was realised.

Staff first found out about Sheila’s dream a few months ago and, ever since then, they have been dedicated to helping her achieve it.

Sheila was also accompanied by friends and staff, who were there to witness the momentous occasion.

Staff pulled out all he stops by decorating the room with flashing lights, glow sticks and hi-vis jackets for everyone, as well as party glasses, 90s rave music and more.

In response to this wonderful surprise, Sheila said: “I was on the verge of tears. It was the best day ever, 10 out of 10, it doesn’t get any better than that. Thank you to everyone who made it happen.”

Lyndsay Scott, general manager at the home, said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing.  We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Laurel Bank.

“It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.  It was wonderful to see how happy Sheila was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”

Laurel Bank care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering personalised care across its care homes and hospitals.
