Lancaster NHS stalwart waves goodbye after almost 60 years
A well-known face behind the receptions of various hospital departments retires this month after working for the NHS for nearly 60 years.
The maxillofacial, ear, nose and throat (ENT) and audiology team are sad to say farewell to Hilary Freedman, who started her career in 1966 at NHS Cumbria, where she worked as a secretary to the pathologist.
Following the department's closure, she moved to a post as a hospital receptionist, where she worked until 1976.
HiIary moved to Lancaster in 1977 and took up a post as an outpatient receptionist covering various departments.

She then moved to the dermatology department, covering Beaumont and Queen Victoria Hospital receptions.
In 2005, she joined the maxillofacial department as a receptionist, where she worked for 20 years, prior to the recent merger of the reception staff for the maxillofacial, ENT and audiology departments.
Hilary said: "I have absolutely loved my job, especially the face-to-face contact of my role and helping the patients solve any issues and problems.”
