Huge pumpkin exhibited at Overton annual show
Overton and District Horticultural Society Show was held at the Overton Memorial Hall on Saturday August 29.
The blue ribbon awarded by the Westmoreland and North Lancashire Federation of Horticultural Show Societies for the best horticultural exhibit in the show was won by local grower Andrew Jarvis for four tomatoes.

The President’s Cup for most points in flowers and vegetables was won by Tim Wingate and the Knipe Cup for most points in local vegetables was won by Jason Booth, who also exhibited a huge pumpkin that will be donated to Overton St Helens School for the Reception pupils to enjoy.
Although the number of open vegetable and flower exhibits was seriously impacted by difficult growing conditions and the ill health of some regular exhibitors, the cookery, handicrafts and photography sections were well supported.
Afternoon teas were very popular and an entertaining auction of produce conducted by John Hughes, formerly of Armitstead Barnett, raised more than £340 thanks to very generous bidding as ever!
The chairman of the society thanked the committee, the main sponsor, Ratcliffe and Bibby Solicitors, and the local advertisers, without whom this great traditional community event would not be possible.
