Kendal Wasps 22 Lancaster Lionesses 17: Ladies battle back to pick up a bonus point

Lancaster Lionesses were on the wrong end of a tight match in Kendal Wasps.

A closely-contested match saw Lancaster Lionesses beaten 22-17 at Kendal Wasps last weekend.

The Lionesses’ strong team effort saw them fight back from early setbacks to secure a losing bonus point.

The Wasps got off to an early start, but the Lancaster team never gave up as they spent long periods in the opposition 22 and continued to push for points.

Despite early injury setbacks, the team showed real determination and resilience in building momentum as the game progressed.

The Lionesses hit their stride in the final 20 minutes, pushing hard to turn the game around.

With the momentum firmly building, Lancaster chased the win but ultimately ran out of time as they finished just five points short at the final whistle.

The Lionesses’ three tries came from Izzie Sheehan, Laura Rigby and Kate Warlow, with Rigby adding a conversion.

Despite the narrow defeat, the team can take plenty of positives from their resilience, teamwork and late attacking pressure.

Amalee Neill-Gourlay was named as player of the match for her outstanding captaincy on the pitch, leading the charge through her work rate and communication.

Forward of the match was Daisee Sewell for her strong gain-line carries, relentless work rate and great teamwork.

Sheehan took the backs’ honour as she displayed calm communication, confident kick returns and chases, and excellent work in locking down the backfield.
