Lancaster City 1 Tadcaster Albion 1: Visitors strike back as FA Cup tie ends in stalemate
Lancaster City face an FA Cup replay on Tuesday evening.
Lancaster City will travel to Tadcaster Albion for a replay on Tuesday after drawing their FA Cup first round qualifying tie on Saturday, writes CONNOR PHILIPSON.
Sam Bailey’s emphatic penalty had the Dollies deservedly ahead at half-time but, after being pegged back with 15 minutes left to play, Lancaster could not find a winner.
They weren’t helped by an outstanding goalkeeping display from visiting keeper Harry Stead.
City manager Jimmy Marshall made four changes to the starting side, with Dylan Thompson and Charlie Bailey starting their first games since returning from injury while Joe Amison and Steven Yawson also came in.
The Dollies started as they meant to go on, Yawson volleying over after controlling Thompson’s cross on his chest.
Thompson had a close-range header cleared off the line, while Stead pushed away Dylan Moonan’s goalbound header and turned Charlie Bailey’s low effort past the post.
It didn’t take too long for Lancaster’s pressure to pay off, when Jim Craig looked to control a ball dropping inside the Tadcaster area.
However, he felt a foot in the back of his ankle which sent him to the floor and saw the referee point to the spot.
Sam Bailey emphatically smashed the ball into the roof of the net to break the deadlock on 25 minutes.
Stead made fantastic close-range saves from Craig and James Bailey as the game crept towards half-time, after which opportunities would be a lot harder to come by.
James Bailey had an effort launched away from goal by Spencer Harris and the Dollies would rue those missed opportunities.
They were caught on the break as Oliver Green rounded Brad Kelly and slotted into the empty net to equalise.
Adam Porritt then whipped a 25-yard free-kick onto the roof of the Lancaster goal before, at the other end, Sam Bailey’s long throw caused a bit of chaos.
It landed at the feet of Alfie Cunningham, who couldn’t direct it on target as he lofted the ball just over the crossbar.
