“We want to win every game that we’re in”: Lancaster City boss eyes FA Cup progress this weekend
Lancaster City take a break from league matters this weekend.
Jimmy Marshall wants to see a reaction from his Lancaster City players following defeat on Bank Holiday Monday.
The Dolly Blues lost 3-0 to Workington AFC at Giant Axe, having gone into the game on the back of seven points from nine in the NPL Premier.
A crowd of 920 saw Luke Hunter, Brad Carroll and Dan Hopper score for the visitors, while City ended the game without the injured Sekouba Sanogo and Toby Oliver.
Rubbing salt into the wound, they also had James Nolan sent off for a second yellow card in stoppage time.
“We’ve had two great wins at Bury and Guiseley, and then we’ve got turned over at home,” Marshall said.
“The best team won, we weren’t at it. They took advantage, full credit to them.
“Sometimes, in football, you’ve got to hold your hands up and admit that we weren’t good enough on the day and they were better than us.
“I thought Workington played well. They were a good side, they had good threats in good areas and goals change games.
“We had a few opportunities in the first half we didn’t take, they got their nose in front early on.
“I thought we weren’t at it and that’s really disappointing, especially at home in front of a great attendance.”
The Dolly Blues take a break from league action this weekend, when Tadcaster Albion visit in the FA Cup’s first qualifying round.
Saturday’s visitors sit 18th in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division ahead of their latest league match at Retford United on Wednesday.
After a hectic opening month of matches on Saturday and then either Monday or Tuesday, Marshall hopes his players can make the most of four blank days and book their place in the next round.
He added: “It’s a really special one, the FA Cup. It’s a privilege to be involved in it.
“We’ve had them watched so we’ll do our homework on them this week, we’ll train again and hopefully we’ll get a good crowd again.
“It’ll be nice to have a little break from the league now, go into a cup competition, hopefully get through to the next round and see where it can take us.
“We want to win every game that we’re in. The FA Cup’s a big competition for us and hopefully, first and foremost, we try and get a result and react positively.”
