“I didn’t think there was a lot in the game”: Weekend defeated disappointed Lancaster City manager
Lancaster City manager reflected on their defeat last weekend.
Jimmy Marshall felt his Lancaster City players came up short after watching them fall to defeat at the weekend.
The Dolly Blues were beaten 2-1 by Leek Town at Giant Axe in their NPL Premier meeting last Saturday.
Having taken four points from their previous two games, Marshall’s players twice fell behind in the first half.
Jack Griffiths had put Leek ahead before Jules Flanagan levelled with half-time three minutes away.
Connor Heath restored Leek’s lead moments later and, as Marshall told club media afterwards, Lancaster didn’t have the nous to get back on terms again.
He said: “I thought, first half, there wasn’t a lot in the game.
“I thought we started quite brightly and when Jules equalises not long before half-time, you’re thinking ‘1-1, we’ll take it into the break, regroup a little bit, look at what we need to do better,’ and then we concede that sucker punch goal.
“Second half, (we) didn’t have enough to break them down. It’s a poor one really because I didn’t think there was a lot in the game.
“We’ve got to give them credit second half, although I didn’t think we created enough to get back in the game.
“The second goal killed a lot of the momentum in the game. If we’d gone in level at half-time then it’d have given us a little bit of a platform and we’d have had a little bit of momentum - and then that knocked the wind out of our sails.
“I just thought it allowed them to slow the game down and cling to something.
“When you’re at home, you’ve got to have a little bit more about you to go and break them down and, unfortunately, we came up short.”
