Lancaster 21-year-old gets set to run monster marathon challenge

A former Lancaster grammar school pupil is gearing up to run a mammoth seven marathons in seven days for charity.

Travis Taylor is currently a final-year undergraduate at the University of Leeds having attended Lancaster Royal Grammar School.

Since leaving LRGS, the 21-year-old’s sporting endeavours have gone far past the school's infamous Set Run.

In 2023, he entered the Great North Run as a gateway event and returned to the course in 2024.

Training more intensely around his second-year studies, he ran the Yorkshire Marathon in October 2024 and Manchester Marathon in April 2025.

More recently, he completed a trail course of 50 kilometres at The North Face's Kendal Skyline Ultra, proving his resilience and grit when chasing success.

"There's something about the sport that is universally unforgiving," said Travis. "There's a beauty to that, I think. To the hunger for excellence that endurance sport instils in you. You can always go that smidgen further".

And further he shall go. Starting on July 1, Travis will run seven marathons over the next seven days. He devised and will face the challenge alone, without company organising or funding.

If he completes the challenge, he will run 295km across that week. "It's a big challenge of course but the unrelenting, mulish Old Lancastrian in me swears that he's up to it,” he said.

Travis has begun training already and is fundraising for Willow Wood Hospice, Tameside.

"The hospice is very close to the hearts of my girlfriend's family and I champion their dedication to caring for their local area,” he said.
