Morecambe confirm signing of former Preston North End and Crewe Alexandra man
Another new club for the ex-PNE youngster
Former Preston North End midfielder Lewis Leigh has joined Morecambe.

The Shrimps, on the back of dropping into the National League North, have snapped up Leigh on a two-year deal. The 22-year-old spent the second half of last season with Chester and now makes the move to the Mazuma Stadium.
Leigh, who came through Liverpool’s youth ranks, joined hometown Preston at the age of 14 and went on to earn a professional deal at Deepdale. He represented the first team on four occasions, with loan spells at Bromley and Crewe. Leigh then joined Bromley permanently in the summer of 2024 but only lasted a year there, with another loan spent at Halifax Town.
Having made 31 appearances for Chester - who made the play-offs - last season, Leigh joins a club targeting promotion back to the fifth tier. Morecambe appointed ex-Halifax boss, Adam Lakeland, as manager in late April. They have already signed eight new players this summer after releasing 18 in the wake of relegation.
On the capture of Leigh, boss Lakeland said: "He was excellent for Chester last season and is another player who, despite being only 22, already has experience playing higher up the pyramid. Lewis is a midfielder who enjoys getting on the ball and dictating play.
“He always looks to play forward, has the passing range to switch play quickly and delivers quality from both open play and set-piece situations, making him another valuable source of creativity for us.
“He also reads the game well, showing excellent awareness through his tackles and interceptions. I believe he has all the attributes to continue developing under our guidance, and I'm looking forward to working with him."
Leigh added: “The talks were big for me personally, as he showed that ambition of going back up the league. He showed the confidence in me that I can help him do just that. I’m excited to get out there, meet all the Morecambe fans and showcase what I can do.”
