“This boy is such a fabulous player,” Adams said of the 34-year-old.

“We’re lucky to have him, he’s got talent in abundance.

“He’s so composed and gets out of situations, and sees a pass. That’s how it happened with the goal for Carlos.”

Mendes Gomes, who has found himself at the centre of transfer speculation, took his tally to 15 for the season with goals in each half.

He also created Wildig’s goal, which put the Shrimps 2-1 up moments after Conor McAleny had cancelled out Morecambe’s opener.

After Stockton had made it 3-1, Mendes Gomes scored the fourth before Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Kyle Jameson set up a tense finish.

Adams said: “Carlos had another tremendous game but I could go through the whole team.

“They were all at it and it was an excellent team performance.
