Morecambe manager maintains they should have six points from six

Ashvir Singh Johal maintains his Morecambe players haven’t had the rewards their recent performances have merited as they seek a first win of the year on Saturday.

The Shrimps welcome Solihull Moors to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, having taken one point from the last 12 since their pre-Christmas win at Brackley Town.

That run of form leaves Johal’s players second-bottom of the National League, four points from safety with 19 games left to avoid a third relegation in four seasons.

Morecambe’s return home comes four days after Wednesday’s 1-0 loss at FC Halifax Town: their ninth defeat in 14 league games away from home in 2025/26.

Will Harris’ early goal settled matters and increased the attention on Johal, who has attracted heavy criticism from a number of the Shrimps’ supporters.

Speaking after Wednesday’s game, the manager was again left to rue a lack of cutting edge up front.

He said: “Defensively we made some big improvements, we didn’t concede many clear-cut chances.

“What I’m really disappointed about is we controlled the game, especially the whole of the second half.

“We had three probably clear-cut chances that we should have scored – shots from in and around the six-yard box – which we didn’t.

“Apart from that, the quality of our final pass or pass into the box wasn’t good enough, whether that was from open play or the corner.

“That overall performance level deserves at least a point, if not a victory, but we’ve got to be better in making that final action.

“(There were) A lot of positives from today and the game against Scunthorpe (last weekend’s 2-2 draw).

“I think we should have got six points out of six but come away with one out of six, so it’s really fine margins at the moment.

“We need to be more effective in the final third, we need to be having more clear-cut chances with the amount we have the ball in the final third.

“I was frustrated because we should have scored at least one or two goals.

“We shouldn’t have conceded in the manner we did but, apart from that, we were solid.

“For the amount we had the ball in their final third and the three big chances we had, we should be coming away with three points.”
