Luke Conlan: I couldn't hear myself think walking out at Ibrox

The Burnley loanee spent the first half of the season with St Mirren north of the border which included playing in a 3-1 defeat for the Buddies at Rangers.

It meant during his first spell away from Turf Moor the 21-year-old left back played in front of 49,000, something which he will remember for a long time, especially considering he is a Celtic fan.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 international said: “It (being with St Mirren) was a great experience, my first loan move.

“The lads were great with me and helped me through it.

“Obviously there were some big games up there like Rangers.

“Growing up with Rangers and Celtic at home it was something else walking out in front of 49,000.

“I couldn’t hear myself think. But once the game started after five minutes or so I was okay.

“It was a great test at one of the biggest grounds in Britain.

“It was good to do it and hopefully I can start off in League 2 here and do well with Morecambe.”

Conlan returned to Burnley in January and says he didn’t have to think twice about his second temporary home after learning of Morecambe and boss Jim Bentley’s interest.

He said: “I’ve just come back (to Burnley) before Christmas and it’s been in the pipeline a bit.

“I heard they were interested in taking me up and having a look at me but they wanted to see me a bit before they made the decision.

“Obviously the opportunity came and I grabbed it with both hands and couldn’t wait to get up and get started.

“The gaffer’s showed that he’s watched me in a good few games over the past couple of years and seems to like me a lot so I can’t wait to get started with him and work well for the team.”

The attack-minded full back admits to not knowing much about The Shrimps but likes what he has seen so far at the Globe Arena.

Conlan said: “I’ve seen a few of them play before and I’ve played against them in the youth leagues for Burnley.

“But I haven’t really seen much of the club though.

“I’ve heard it’s a great club though and there’s a great set-up up here as well.

“All the lads seem very sound and I can’t wait to get started.”

His main aim is to play games as the County Down-born full back enters a crucial part of his career.

Conlan said: “I just want to get as much game time as possible.

“They’re going to help me and hopefully I can help them.

“The thing that I need to happen in my career at the moment is to play games.

“League 2 is a lot more physical and something I need to bring into my game.

“I’ve got to cope with physical pressure.”
