“I’m pleased for the players and the staff”: Adam Lakeland thrilled with Morecambe’s weekend win
Morecambe boss gave his thoughts after their victory on Saturday.
Morecambe manager Adam Lakeland said his side’s victory at Merthyr Town was an ‘important’ one following a disappointing couple of weeks, writes DEREK QUINN.
After their FA Cup exit at AFC Rushden and Diamonds and defeat at Worksop Town in recent weeks, the Shrimps returned to winning ways with a good performance in shocking conditions in Wales.
Goals from Paul Lewis, Taelor O’Kane and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts earned a 3-1 win that lifted the Shrimps back up to 11th in a congested National League North table ahead of two home games this week.
Lakeland said afterwards: “I was delighted with the performance. The players stuck to their tasks, were very disciplined and I thought we deserved the win.
“We were ahead at the break and should have been further ahead and had a setback when they equalised.
“That was a test for us then, given all that has been made of our away form and results and our inability to win games on artificial pitches.
“From that moment on the lads found another level and another gear.
“They were brave and played some great football and deservedly won the game.
“I’m pleased for the players and the staff because it has been a difficult couple of weeks for us and it was an important win for us and important that we build on it.”
