A popular play area has been transformed after a £33,300 revamp, giving families a safer and brighter place to play.

Lancaster City Council’s playground team cleaned, repaired and repainted the tired equipment at Regent Park in Morecambe, and removed the old safety surface for a specialist contractor to lay brand new wet-pour surfacing.

The £27,500 cost to resurface the play area was funded through a combination of council investment, a £400 contribution from the Friends group and a successful £18,723 grant from Lancashire Environmental Fund.

They also added a new £5k spinner to replace a faulty roundabout.

A council spokesperson said: “It is important to us that children have space to be active, build confidence, make friends and enjoy the outdoors and thanks to this joint investment, local youngsters can now enjoy a refreshed play space.”
