The Art of Travel course begins on Thursday October 1 at Halton Mill.

Led by cultural traveller Fiona Frank, who lives in Halton,  and Wendy Moore, a Lancaster-based multimedia artist, the six-week course offers a unique space and already has a core group, with a few places still open.

The Art of Travel welcomes artists of all abilities, from beginners to experienced practitioners. Participants will use their own holiday sketches, photos, videos and recordings, alongside old maps, ticket stubs, diaries and memories to explore a variety of creative media that could include collage, drawing, photography, painting and sound.

“The Art of Travel is a wonderful opportunity to share the stories behind your own travels in a supportive, creative environment,” said Fiona Frank, who began travelling, mostly solo, six years ago.

Now retired, she has recently returned from eight months in South America, where she played music with local musicians, learned traditional dance in North Eastern Brazil, and joined a three-day canoe expedition and an eight-day trek.

She added: “It’s not all about travelling abroad – Britain has amazing places to explore.  This will be a relaxed space where people can revisit journeys, imagine new ones and work on creative projects inspired by travel.

"It is as much about sharing stories as it is about making art. We have a few places left and would love to welcome some more participants.”

Two free places offered for people unable to afford the course have already been taken. The six-week course itself costs £48. Booking is now open for the remaining places.

The Art of Travel runs from 10am to noon on Thursdays from October 1 to November 5.
