The performance is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Common or Garden Theatre’s Helen and Jez are among the recently appointed associate artists at The Dukes.

They said: “We are fans of folk music and folk arts and believe that theatre has been and can continue to be a folk art itself. We hope to perform shows that move audiences, are socially relevant, and are appealing to people of all backgrounds.’

Drove is Common or Garden Theatre’s first production and is influenced by folk songs and legends.

The play is about a village in which old myths have returned to haunt the present, where locals become mired in the wildness that surrounds them.

It is a darkly humorous and atmospheric play that explores village life, folklore and superstition.

It contains strong language, portrayals of discrimination and references to violence and is not suitable for a younger audience.

Performances are on November 18 at 7.30pm, November 19 at 4.30pm and 7.30pm, and November 20 at 4.30pm and 7.30pm.

Standard tickets are £10 with a ‘pay what you decide’ concession, available from https://www.trybooking.com/uk/event/122961
