Fly tipper caught on door camera dumping bags of rubbish fined by Lancaster City Council
Doorbell footage could help Lancaster City Council tackle fly tipping.
A spokesman for Lancaster City Council said: “A resident recently sent us video doorbell footage showing two people dumping bags of rubbish in a green space close to houses.
“Our officers investigated the footage and the registered keeper of the vehicle has now been issued with £400 Fixed Penalty Notice for fly-tipping (reduced to £300 if paid within 10 days).
“Since January, our crews have cleared 382 tonnes of fly-tipped waste from 4,099 incidents on roadsides, residential streets and green spaces.

“To put that into perspective, that’s around 30 double-decker buses filled with unwanted household items and rubbish.
“It shows just how valuable information from residents can be to help us tackle issues of fly tipping, which spoils the places we live and creates unnecessary work for our teams.
“So, if you have CCTV, doorbell footage or vehicle dashcam of a fly tipping incident, send it to us so we can investigate.
“Fly tipping is a criminal offence and we can issue a £400 fine to offenders caught illegally dumping waste.

“Where waste is fly tipped from a vehicle, as in this case, it won’t necessarily protect you from a fine if the driver can’t be identified.
"The law also allows for a person responsible for the vehicle, normally the registered keeper to face action.
