Rescue crews were called to Bolton-le-Sands on Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called out to three walkers after they got stuck in quicksand at Bolton-le-Sands.

Holyhead Coastguard requested various services including Bay Search & Rescue’s Sherp and Quicksand Rescue equipment after receiving a call at 5.15pm on Monday.

Coastguard teams and declared independent quicksand assets such as BSAR, Knott End Coastguard Rescue Team and Arnside and South Lakes Coastguard Rescue Team set off across and around the bay in support of the rescue as the tide started to run in.

The first team at the scene at Red Bank Farm was from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, supported by Morecambe Coastguard Rescue Team, who were able to free the casualties and get them to safety.

Two fire engines from Morecambe and Bolton-le-Sands attended the incident near Shore Lane, with casualties rescued from the sand using a sandboard and spade.

A BSAR spokesman said: “Superb responses from all teams asked to assist and a massive response from BSAR team members with a nearly whole team turnout.”

If you see someone in difficulty around the coast dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
