Morecambe chowder business offers young person a no-strings share in their business

A Morecambe couple are offering a young person the chance to benefit from a share in their business – no strings attached.

Pete and Helen Stephenson, who own Morecambe Bay Chowder Co, have launched a new initiative which would give one young person aged 16 to 21 a one per cent share in the business for one year.

“We believe the future is bright for young people in our area, and that there's never been a better time to shape that future through entrepreneurship,” said the pair, who set up the business in 2021.

"That is why we’re giving one local young person a one per cent share in our business for one year.

“There are no expectations or strings attached. It is simply a gift. An opportunity that a young person might not otherwise receive.

“Anyone aged 16-21 living in the Morecambe area is eligible to apply. Applications are now open via our website and close on Friday 7th August.

“If someone comes to mind, we’d love it if you shared this with them. Thank you.”

Writing on his LinkedIn profile, Pete said: “Last year, we were offered a six-figure investment in Morecambe Bay Chowder Co. We said no.

“Not because investment is a bad thing, we have a fantastic local investor on board. This one just wasn’t the right fit for our business.

“Instead, we asked ourselves a different question. What if a small part of our business could change someone’s future?”
