Gyles, who has appeared on Have I Got News For You and Countdown, will perform at the Grand on July 12 at 7.30pm.

A writer by trade, the new show is prior to the Edinburgh festival run and audiences can expect satirical mayhem around the power of language.

Gyles explains: “The show is called WORD POWER! And it’s all about words - the power of words and the fun you can have with them.

“It’s for people who enjoy Just a Minute and Countdown and shows like QI.

“It’s one of the few shows that really keeps those little grey cells ticking.

Brandreth, who is also a regular broadcaster on BBC’s The One Show, loves visiting the district as his family all live throughout Lancashire.

He said: “I love coming back to Lancashire.

“What tickled me this week - I saw a headline in a newspaper that made me smile: ‘missing baby found in sandwich.’”

Gyles is also known for being one of Britain’s most sought-after award ceremony hosts and after-dinner speakers.

Tickets are £17 adults and £16 concessions, available on 01524 64695 or visit www.lancastergrand.co.uk/.
