Lancaster’s highly acclaimed About Theatre is to give a new American musical its North West debut at The Storey next week (Thursday July 7 to Saturday July 9) in a production which also continues the venue’s support for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
Directed by Sharon Bell, “Songs for a New World” by Jason Robert Brown features a nine-strong cast which never leaves the stage.
The show is made up of a series of 15 songs with inter-linked themes which give the actors and actresses an opportunity to take on different characters which share the common bond of being at a crossroad in their lives.
All proceeds from the three day run will be donated to Rosemere Cancer Foundation, which About Theatre has supported since 2007 following the untimely death from skin cancer of its founder Roger Bradley.
The opening number of the show suggests that ‘it’s about one moment’ but the piece is about a multitude of these moments. The moment when someone is born and the moment when someone dies. Stories are told through song that blends pop, gospel and jazz.
The cast includes John Beamer, Emily Prescott and Paul Jones, who had leading roles in About Theatre’s 2015 production of “Little Shop of Horrors.” They will be joined by Ryan Butterworth, Carmel Wigglesworth, Ceri Hamer, Tom Ledsham, Robbie Love and Anna Webster.
Tickets for the show, which starts at 7.45pm each evening and has a 2.30pm Saturday matinee, are £12 from the Lancaster Grand Theatre on 01524 64695 or at www.lancastergrand.co.uk.
