The Sound of Musicals

FOLLOWING their successful productions of Dracula and Chess and their critically acclaimed Revolution! show, AV Productions return to Lancaster Grand on Sunday May 22 for two performances.

Their new show in 2011 is American Songbook: a celebration of Rodgers and Hammerstein (above) and is a real electric mix of some of the world’s favourite musicals by these two amazingly talented writers.

Artistic director Andy Vitolo said: “We are so delighted to be returning to the beautiful Grand Theatre and are very proud of this show featuring songs from Showboat, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma! and South Pacific.

“What’s also very exciting is to include wonderful songs like Have You Met Miss Jones and The Lady is a Tramp, which most people know as swing classics.”

Andy is very passionate about the ground breaking Showboat; indeed while living in New York and working on projects he presented his ideas to the president of the Rodgers and Hammerstein organisation and was given a script from 1946 which was supervised by Oscar Hammerstein himself and talked through his ideas at a dinner party to the great niece of Edna Ferber, who actually wrote the novel Showboat.
