LOCAL boy turned rock star John Waite shook the Grand Theatre to its foundations on Wednesday, rolling out a string of hits old and new to celebrate his first solo gig in Lancaster.
John achieved worldwide fame in the 80s with the iconic rock ballad Missing You, which took the number one spot in America and charted around the globe, as well as becoming a standard on compilations for the next 20 years.
Having lived in the US for many years, John was obviously delighted to be back home for a one-night stand, and waved and exchanged greetings and jokes with members of the audience, as well as giving a special mention to his mum and brother who were watching from the box alongside the stage.
John started his career as lead singer and bass player of The Babys but achieved his greatest success after going solo in 1982.
He later became part of the supergroup Bad English but went solo again in the mid 90s.
