A raft of internationally renowned DJs are heading to Lancaster next month to perform in the country’s most exciting new venue.

Once occupied by convicted criminals at Her Majesty’s pleasure, Lancaster Castle’s A Wing is set to be temporarily transformed into a club which will play host to sets by Radio 1 DJ and Bestival organiser Rob Da Bank, high ranking tech-house and breaks DJ/producer James Zabiela and dance duo 2 Bears, featuring Joe Goddard of Hot Chip.

And we can announce exclusively in the Lancaster Guardian that veteran house DJ Derrick Carter will be tying up proceedings with a disco set on the Sunday night.

Excitement is mounting over what has been described as “a truly unique venue in Europe” by A Wing organiser and Prestonian Richard Dyer, who is also a director of online gig ticket agency Skiddle.com.

The events, which will have a capacity of 450, are due to go ahead on the bank holiday weekend of May 23-25 and, subject to licensing, will run until 4am.

Set over two floors, the first show will take place on Friday May 23 with Rob da Bank and The 2 Bears headlining with Manchester’s Funkademia resident and Twenty Twenty Two stalwart Jamie Schahill playing the first ever set on the wing.

Carlisle promoters Uber will be heading down the M6 on the Saturday night to bring James Zabiela, Denney, Sonny Wharton and James Ryan to the venue.

All the shows will feature the Funktion-1 soundsystem and lighting by Lancaster based 118 Audio.

Richard said: “There’s been nothing like this, it’s a truly unique venue to Europe. We’ve spent a long time working on this and it’s a great thing for Lancaster. The artists have played in a lot of different clubs, warehouses and festival fields, but very few of them have played in a former prison before. There’s a lot of excitement about these events.”

Tickets, which are expected to sell out very quickly, are available from www.skiddle.com.
