Thundering rhythms, mysterious masked choreography and post apocalyptic imagery will form part of a spellbinding display coming the The Grand Theatre in Lancaster later this year.
The Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers will be on tour in the UK in October, returning to The Grand on October 23.
Celebrating their 20th year, Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers are the UK’s longest established taiko ensemble and have established a solid reputation for their gritty passionate style, setting themselves firmly at the forefront of Taiko drumming in Europe through their rigorous touring.
They present taiko as a modern and theatrical performing art, with precise choreography, dramatic lighting, and a variety of costumes ranging from the post-apocalyptic industrial to gorgeous earthy silks. The concert is extremely diverse: powerful rhythms on an array of instruments from small hand-held drums to the thunderous reverberations of the huge Odaiko big drum, delicate bamboo flute, soulful voice, layers of percussive soundscapes, and innovative dance tightly integrated with the taiko drums with their full concert of thundering rhythms on huge taiko drums - all in a spellbinding display of pure energy and sheer athleticism. Tickets are £18/£15 and £10 for under 18s/students.
