Review: All Star Stand Up, Lancaster Grand

Fist clenching laughs, strip-teasing antics and blushes all round as four larger than life comedians turned a Tuesday night into a Friday night.

The All Star Stand Up Tour rolled into Lancaster Grand Theatre for one night only this week. New Zealander Jarred Christmas led the bill which starred Mock The Week star Gary Delaney, magician/comedian Pete Firman and comic legend Sean Hughes.

It was a long night but one that deserved more credit than it was worth. The sparse audience however gave the acts what they wanted, plenty of laughs, ooos and ahhs!

Jarred certainly had no problem warming up the crowd, his mockery of the city’s one-way system was enough to build friendship immediately. Someone asked ‘do you play rugby Jarred?’
his response was to unbutton his shirt without his
hands, a sight he would not want to keep but funny none the less.

Pete delivered some mediocre tricks, I’m not a magic fan, so his ability to make a mockery of himself whilst engaging the crowd on a ‘isn’t this ridiculous’ notion was well received.

Delaney was his usual pun-master self, his reliance on controversial jokes became a bit boring for me though.

Veteran Sean Hughes mentioned sister paper the Visitor as he discussed aging, sex and relationships.

One 14-year-old boy got the brunt of his attention and I guessed he had sunk further into his seat by the finale.

A good night all round with even a competition to win a bottle of prosecco at the end!
