Lancaster comedy club is a hidden gem

Lancaster is lucky enough to have more than it's fair share of live comedy with regular shows at both the Grand Theatre and Dukes often selling out to hundreds of eager fans.

Slightly less known though is the Lancaster Comedy Club, held in the upstairs Drawing Room at The Borough, Dalton Square every Sunday evening for over seven years now.

Organiser Rob Riley said: “No-one wants to hear the same joke twice so we rarely book a comedian twice in a year and only employ comperes with strong improvisational skills.

“This keeps our shows fresh so customers can come back again and again.”

Regulars are always in with a chance of seeing a big name too. John Bishop has popped in unannounced to try out new material and The Boy With Tape On His Face was a Borough regular years before he became an America’s Got Talent finalist.

Acts coming up to the show soon will be Martin Mor, whose comedy career came after a unicycle accident. The show will also welcome Jim Tavare, Canada’s Tanyalee Davis, best known for her appearances on The John Bishop Show and Stephen Bailey, who is fast making a name for himself as a stand up.

Events take place on Sunday October 30, Sunday November 6, 13, 20, 27.

Visit www.lancaster comedy.co.uk for details. Admission is £9 on the door, £7 in advance with shows starting at 8pm.
