Welcome to the first in a series of articles about Campus in the City, a Lancaster University initiative, which brings a series of free, public events to St Nicholas Arcades.

With events covering everything from money to memory maps and the Lancaster floods to locally-sourced food, we are pleased to be back in Lancaster for our third year, writes co-manager Lindsey King.

Our fantastic new location, opposite Next in St Nicholas Arcades, will open at 11am on Saturday March 12 with a technology event. Featuring a walkthrough of the human body, a Minecraft version of the campus, an iPad robot and a 3D printer, there will be plenty to see and try out.

Following the launch, our first week will be packed with a variety of exciting events.

We begin on Tuesday March 15 with a student team who are looking at improving health and increasing happiness levels in the city. Call in for a coffee and contribute to an interactive art piece.

On Wednesday, there will be another chance to take our interactive 3D tour of the human body and to see how things really work on the inside! This will be followed by a (hopefully less gory) look at our local history and heritage on Thursday March 17.

Gadget fans are welcome on Friday when we explore mobile technology and try out an app which is all about Lancaster, while March 19 sees us looking at the situation in Syria and beyond with our experts on peace and conflict.

All of the events at Campus in the City are free and open to all, and this week is just the beginning. In our second week, we’ll have even more to see and do. We’re especially looking forward to being taken over by our psychologists as they look for people to take part in their experiments and to finding out more about why you can’t always believe your eyes as we enter the strange world of optical illusions.
