City band's reunion will feature '˜passion, energy and humour'

Mostly Hums will get back together for one gig to raise money for CancerCare and St John’s Hospice on July 2.

The band features Vicki Sidlow on accordian and keys, Chris Barlow on vocals and ryhthm guitar, Trev Wagstaff on drums, Paul Graves on lead guitar and Andrew Ashworth on bass.

They produced four albums, playing frequently in the Lancaster area, and supported Marillion, Ricky Ross and Paul Carrack plus a sold out gig at The Dukes for their final album launch, before calling it a day in 2010.

Members went on to join or form other bands including Hiroshima Twinkie, The Howling Clowns, The Manta Rays, DC Dancette and The Initiative.

Front man Chris Barlow said: “We’re all still friends, it had been a great ride, we called it a day as we had other things we wanted to do, but we all found ourselves at Trev’s New Years Eve party and got up and did an impromptu set.

“We remembered all the songs and thoroughly enjoyed it, we all thought ‘what the heck, wouldn’t it be nice to play a gig again’.”

Support on the night comes from acoustic Sea of Rain, featuring Chris’ daughter Daisy Barlow.

Chris added: “I’m also thrilled to have my daughter support us – she’s a chip off the old black, though with a better voice and much better looking. The Friends of Lancaster Library have been very kind in supporting this event and we thought we’d like to raise money for two good causes.”

Chris said the band will play “a lively collection of assorted Mostly Hums classics”.

He added: “Plus the usual passion, energy and humour that Hums fans came to enjoy – I even suspect their much loved versions of Kraftwerk’s The Model and OMD’s Enola Gay, might also appear in the set for good measure.”
