Lancaster and Morecambe AC held their annual junior cross country presentation evening on Tuesday, June 21.
The club’s cross country championships are based on the athletes’ best four performances from the five Mid Lancs League fixtures, the County Championships, the Northern Championships and the National Championships.
Kirsty Maher won the U11 trophy and gold medal as well as receiving the Mid Lancs colour badge and 2015/16 flash for completing four Mid Lancs fixtures.
The silver medal went to Cleo Hannafin, who was also awarded Mid Lancs colours.
Tobias Swarbrick won the U11 trophy and gold medal while receiving the Mid Lancs colour badge and 2015/16 flash for completing four Mid Lancs fixtures. Freddie Pearson won the silver medal.
Erin Moffatt won the U13 trophy and gold medal, she also received the Mid Lancs flash for completing four Mid Lancs fixtures.
Erin was selected to represent Lancashire for the second year in succession, finishing 69th at the inter counties race.
Kirsty Hamilton won the silver medal. She also received the Mid Lancs flash for completing four Mid Lancs fixtures.
Rhys Ashton won the U13 trophy and gold medal. Rhys also won his first Lancashire vest finishing 45th in the inter counties cross country championships. William Pyle won the silver medal.
He also achieved county recognition, finishing 83rd in the inter counties championships wearing a Lancashire vest. Matthew Knowles finished 91st in the same race.
U15G Emma Whitaker was recognised for her 57th place at the inter counties championships. The U15G championship was won by Isabelle Woodman.
James Stanley won the U15 trophy and gold medal. He also received the Mid Lancs colour badge and 2015/16 flash for completing four Mid Lancs fixtures. James finished 178th at the inter counties cross country wearing a Lancashire vest. Will Howard won the silver medal and finishing 157th at the inter counties race. Shea Hannam won the bronze medal.
Tom Bowe won the U17M trophy and gold medal, Joseph Twigg won the silver.
Athletes who represented their county schools at the English Schools Cross Country Championships were: Junior Boys – James Stanley (112th); William Pyle(161st)Matthew Knowles(189th); (all Lancashire); Inter Boys – Thomas Bowe(212th); William Howard(236th) (both Lancashire); Junior Girls – Erin Moffatt(161st); (Lancashire); Inter Girls – Scarlet Dale(23rd), Emma Whitaker (31st) (both Cumbria); Senior Girls – Heidi Murray (126th); (Cumbria).
l Lancaster and Morecambe AC’s road runners have enjoyed a busy and successful few weeks of racing.
At the Father’s Day 10k in Lancaster first back for the club was Jon Sear, running strongly to finish in 40m.52, well up the field in 12th position.
Following Jon was Ben Winterburn running a good time of 43m.11.
Linda Stapleton finished in 1h.08.35 and Evelyn Elkington ran well for first veteran 75 place in 1h.12.34.
Lauren Gora made light work of the undulating Hawkshead 10k near Ambleside, running a super time of 41m.41 to take third place in the women’s race and finishing 38th overall.
In next was Michael Roy in 42m.28 finishing 45th and Michelle Peters in 1h.01.26.
In the second race in the Lancaster Saturday night 5k series David Brown took sixth place with a great effort of 15m.57.
Chris Pyle was next in 24th with a fine run of 17m.35 and just five seconds behind in 26th was William Pyle.
Hannah Bateson ran strongly to take second place in the women’s race and 34th overall finishing in 18m.25, followed by Jayne Perry who was first veteran 35 with a good time of 20m.02 and Steve Perry finishing in 21m.11.
