Youngsters come from all over for junior tournaments

Lancaster Tennis Club attracted youngsters from far and wide for a series of junior tournaments.

For the first time since its junior section began three years ago, the Lune Road club ran their first official Mini Red, Orange and Green tournaments with up and coming tennis players coming from as far as the Isle of Man to take part.

The Mini tournaments took place over two Saturdays, July 26 and August 2.

The winner of the Green Tournament, for 10-year-olds, was Roch Mirski from the Isle of Man with runner-up George Rotherham from Preston.

Jacob Orr was the best of the home competitors, finishing third, with Alfie Sansom, Hattie Fraser-Gray and Filip Stuchlik also taking part.

The winner of the Mini Orange, for ages eight and over, was Tomáš Grime from Lancaster with the runner-up Kyle Summers from Preston.

The winner of the Mini Red Tournament, for youngsters seven and under, was Luke Dunham from Bishop’s Stortford with Morgan Gardner from Lancaster the runner-up.

Other competitors included Joseph McLaughin from Heversham, Jamie Parry from Kendal, Ashton Kasam-Sharples from Lancaster and Benjy Orr, Lancaster’s youngest competitor.
