The Vale of Lune Ladies team, run by RFU Community coach Martin Powell, have just come to the end of their first season.

Numbers, now standing at around 35, have been boosted by links with the University of Cumbira and Lancaster University with the ladies playing 10 friendlies in total thus far with plans afoot to join a competitive league next season.

Martin, who has also overseen the development of girls under 13s, under 15s and under 18s sides, said: “This team was set up by the ladies themselves, they saw the Vale girls under 15s play a fixture in March 2015 and said they wanted to follow suit, so they did.

“Vale of Lune are in a very unique position now where they can offer rugby activity to any female of any age and there are not many clubs who can say the same. “Seeing them progress from the first session to the last game has been amazing, they should be really proud of what they have achieved.”
