Vale head into new season without competitive warm-up

Another of Vale of Lune’s August fixtures hit the changing room floor with a resounding thud when Oldham conceded their first round tie in the Brian Leigh Lancashire Trophy due to be played at Manor Park on Saturday, August 29.

Although the Vale now move through to the next round of the competition, to be played on February 6, when they will travel to play the winners of the Eccles-Fleetwood tie, it does mean they begin their North One West campaign, at home against Penrith on September 5 without the benefit of playing any competitive warm up games.

On the wider rugby union stage the Rugby World Cup 2015 begins on Friday, September 18 when England play the first game in the tournament at Twickenham against Fiji.

To celebrate the occasion the Vale clubhouse will be open from 5pm with a traditional fish and chip supper being available until 7pm, prior to the game being screened live in the clubhouse.
