Three of the region’s junior triathletes, Ffion Ashton, Amy Monkhouse and Shea Hannam delivered stunning performances this weekend to help the North West region lift the trophy at the Inter-Regional Junior Triathlon Championships at Eaton Dorney.
Running alongside the European Championships for Youth and Juniors, the IRC’s are the pinnacle of the junior triathlon calendar with three boys and three girls selected at the 11/12 year old and 13/14 year old age groups from each of Great Britain’s 11 regions.
Ffion and Amy achieved fourth and sixth place respectively against 33 of the top girls in the country, an amazing achievement for these youngsters.
Shea also achieved a solid result in the middle of the field, contributing additional valuable points to the overall result.
Ffion and Amy are both members of COLT (City of Lancaster Triathlon) and committed club swimmers coached by Mark Smith, Andy Timpany and Michelle Ritchie of Carnforth Otters.
They are also keen members of Cogset Cycling and Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club where they receive strong support from their coach’s Jennie Hodgson and Sharon Hinnigan.
Shea has recently built on some superb results under Pentathlon UK having represented Great Britain in the Biathle World Championships.
Shea is coached by Andi Daykin and Karl Bradley at Lancaster Swimming and Water Polo Club and is also a member of CogSet cycling and Lancaster and Morecambe athletics.
