Torrisholme come up short against Vernon Carus

Torrisholme went down to a 36-run defeat at home to Vernon Carus in the Palace Shield Premier Division on Saturday.

Matt Jackson won the toss and put the visitors into bat at Boundary Meadow, a half century from James McDonagh helping Vernons post 166-6.

Captain Christian Ash also made 43 before being caught and bowled by Jackson.

The skipper finished with 2-54 while Daniel Woods also took 2-39 including the wicket of McDonagh, the Vernons wicketkeeper hitting three fours and two sixes in his 51.

In reply Adam Bee hit 50, including six fours and a six, and Chris Parry 37 but Torrisholme came up short as they were bowled out for 130.

James Cookson also chipped in with 23 but they were the only three players to reach double figures as Torrisholme were dismissed in the 38th over.

Ben Llewellin was the chief destroyer, taking 4-24 from his 10.3 overs leaving Vernons third in the table.

Joe Allen also took 3-38, removing both Bee and Parry, meaning Jackson’s side are ninth, five games into their return to the Premier Division.

This Saturday Torrisholme travel to second in the table Fulwood and Broughton.
