Bentham’s resident bruiser enhanced his growing reputation with a third knockout victory of his professional career.

Undefeated light heavyweight Tomi Tatham knocked down Mitch Mitchell twice on the way to a second round stoppage at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton on Saturday night.

The 23-year-old felled the Lincoln fighter in the first with a devastating body shot and put him down again in the second after continuing to work the body, with Mitchell unable to answer referee Phil Edwards’ count.

Tatham, known as ‘TNT’ said: “I’m very pleased.

“My opponent didn’t have a great record but he was a good tactical fighter.

“I was put in there with him because he hadn’t been stopped but I was able to do it.

“The guy came over to me at the end of the fight and said he’d never been hit like that before. The people who came along to support me were fantastic and were the noisiest lot there. It really helps me out.”

Tatham was fighting on the undercard of a big night of boxing from Manchester’s VIP Promotions.

Blackpool’s Jack Arnfield won the International Masters light-middleweight title against Gary Boulden in the main event.
